Main Tujhe Fir Milungi…

Main Tujhe Fir Milungi…

“If we couldn’t create the verses of yearnings, let’s begin the tales to be told to generations after…..the stories to be remembered forever”…
…I had written this Hindi couplet sometime ago while writing about the ‘NAVRASAs’ of poetry. This couplet portrays ‘Virahras‘, the emotion of separation. Recently, I came across a heart wrenching vers’ libre, a free verse poem written by the veteran Punjabi poet Amrita Pritam, one of the the begetters of ‘Romantic Progressive Revolution’ in Indian Literature…. Main tenu fir milangi….
Main Tujhe Fir Milungi.

Amrita Pritam

I jolted on this genius of poesy while surfing through web and completely drenched in this beautiful emanation of love and separation Amrita Pritam had written for her artist friend and muse Imroz. Flowing with emotions, I elaborated my Hindi couplet. Here it goes…

Though, both the poems portray the emotions of meeting the beloved beyond reality, mine speaks of loss interlaced with a feeble hope…of hoping against hope.

The faint hope unfurls into a liberation. A liberation of thoughts from all the cages of life. A freedom from all repressions. Even my verses seek a liberation from rhyme and rhythm and unfurl into a vers’ libre…. Main Tujhe Fir Milungi.

My poem is blatantly influenced from Amrita’s “Main Tujhe Fir Milungi”, BUT each and every EMOTION and word apart from the leitmotif is my very own and too close to my heart.
“Main Tujhe Fir Milungi” is one of the last poems of the librettist and I would happily proclaim I have been a great fanatic of her poetry since my younger years. I had read many of her books including her magnum opus, her autobiography “Rasidi Ticket”. Her longings for great poet and lyricist Sahir Ludhiyanvi resulted in many masterpieces in poetry. Sahir’s “Kabhi Kabhi”, (in Hindi and Persian both) was written for Amrita.

So, before I end this post, I request all my readers to not to forget my puny verses before that of the virtuoso. Because, those are true to my emotions. What is poetry after all? Mere truth of emotions, isn’t it? Unlike Amrita, I haven’t written them for any Imroz or Sahir but for Him, who is the unison of all. For my muse… ????
