Epilogue.
Come monsoons, and there comes a myriad of emotions painted in a slew of rainbows. When it rains, symphonies spurt with all the “NAVRASAS‘, the nine aesthetic moods.
A Hindi Kavita after long which carries all the nine emotions, Navrasas….. विरह (love and separation), हास्य (humor ), करुणा (kindness), रौद्र ( anger ), वीर (courage) भयानक (fear), वीभत्स (disgust), अद्भुत (wonder) and शांत (tranquility)!
I have tried to incorporate all the human emotions in this poem woven with the euphony of rains and the music of monsoons.

काफी*: I have implied a ‘Double Entendre on the word ‘KAFI”, which means,
1. Enough
2. Thaat ‘Kafi’, (Thaat is a basic scale mode of a particular raag in classical music. Thaat Kafi is the one among 10 thaats.) I’m explaining the Double Entendre below…
“बेली ने इठलाकर पूछा,
“गाऊँ मैं मेघ-मल्हार ?”,
घन घनाकार गरज बोला,
“काफी* है मेरा प्यार !
Replying to Beili (Jasmine) for her plea to sing ‘Megh Malhar” for him to shower rains, the Cloud says, “My love is enough (*)! (He doesn’t want her to sing as his love is sufficient for rain). The other meaning would be “I love Kaafi (Thaat Kaafi)! (He wants her to sing raag Megh Malhar as he loves its thaat).

While the poetic expression is nice, the detailed translation too is very impressively done. The idea of incorporating all the nine rasas while commendable and well executed , was difficult to keep up with – I was in a turmoil going from one sweet emotion to fear and so on. Dheeme Dheeme Re Sajnaa 🙂
Kahan se shuru karoon? First of all, thank you so much girl for reading it so keenly and for this detailed review. You read it, and that means a lot. Secondly, I had written it in a flux of emotions, never planned “Navrasas”. But, surprised to see almost all when ended up, Glad you noticed the rush. I think a 300 words poem is too small a canvas to paint nine moods in a whole. Sacchi… dheeme dheeme hi jana tha…. 🙂
Thanks a bunch Preeti! <3
An amazing poem having quite unique blend of longingness and a well crafted minute detail of the beauty and worst side of rain. The usage of pure Hindi words have added to it’s rhthmic resonance. In brief, I enjoyed reading it again and again.
