A Five Sentence Fiction…
On that scorching hot May morning, he was sweating profusely in his black lawyer’s coat, so she wiped his face softly with her hand laden with red glass bangles and said— “why don’t you buy an air conditioner for your chamber?”
“No-no, I’ll rather buy gold bangles for you for which I’ve got Rs. 30,000/- as the fees for 3 criminal cases and I’ve to attend 3 back-to-back hearings in court today”, — he, though, smiled but was too stressed.
He was brought back home that evening surrounded by a mob, and those 30,000/- Rs. were stolen while he was taken to hospital after his cardiac arrest in the courtroom for he couldn’t meet his timings and manage his stress.
This time when she wiped his face, his forehead was icy cold and he was not sweating despite wearing his black heavy coat and her wrists weren’t laden with those red glass bangles.
The thief was right stealing the money as the money was not meant for their ‘Gift of Magi[‘ because neither he needed an A.C., as he was lying over the icebed of death, nor she needed those gold bangles as the glass ones were no longer left in her hands.
