Sufjan Stevens, a Canadian singer who might be lesser known, but he has just taught people a lot of old and new words with the track listing of his latest spacesynth album, APORIA. Most of the titles are of Proto-Greek origin and are a telltale of the diverse ancient Greek myth and folklore. I have incorporated all the Greek words and common phrases from the tracklist of APORIA in a tale woven around Greek gods and goddesses in my poetic fiction. I’ve capitalized all the track-names in my epyllion and explained their meanings below.
The Disinheritance of Light
Amid the oasis of THE RED DESERT, there sat AGATHON
Led by a BLACKHANDED CLOUD, he wrote an epyllion!
He knew WHAT IT TAKES to write was mere OUSIA, not pen
He wept THE UNLIMITED tears, to CLIMB THAT MOUNTAIN !
‘Twas the tale of Titans, of Theia, the deity of sight
She fell for Hyperion, the god of celestial light.
Theia’s veil was made of Ether, the Sky, bright and blue
Enticed Hyperion called his bride, “THE GLORIOUS YOU” !
The wedding of the Titans was an AFTERWORLD ALLIANCE
The groom sealed it with a kiss and a diamond of brilliance.
Theia bore fragments of light, whom Hyperion did sire
Selene, the Moon, Eos, the Dawn, Helios, the Sun, O, Fire!
Helios was brave, his light was harsh, Eos, timid and shy
But Selene was mother’s loved girl, the apple of her eyes.
In spite of wrath, Helios was crowned the king of constellation
Eos was ordained King’s hand, meant for his CONCILIATION.
Theia hated the injustice Selene faced for being meek
Disparity out of gender wasn’t a custom among the Greek.
She fought for her daughter’s rights, for she never kept mum,
Selene got bits of Helios’s light, ’twas DETERMINED OUTCOME.
The Ether was tranquil and the Titans lived in ATARAXIA
Helios, the CAPTAIN PRAXIS kept on ruling his Galaxia.
Then came a charmer in the realm, Ah! he eyed Selene,
He wooed her with his paeans, sang beauty serene.
The seducer had big plans, as dethroning the king,
For his ploys, he bestowed her with THE LYDIAN RING.
The ring snared the Moon girl, she was then spellbound
Charmer’s malefic games made her THE RUNAROUND.
For his wish Selene stole Helios’s crown of light
He annexed Titans’ empire, fulfilled his spite.
Hyperion enraged with fury, Helios blazed in ire,
They burned off the Charmer, cremated his desire.
Tied with THE LYDIAN RING, Selene was yet bewitched,
Thrown out of the Galaxy, by father, she was twitched.
Love made her betray her clan, she earned DISINHERITANCE
Helios snatched her glory, blemished her countenance.
Finding her Moon face poke-marked, Thiea cried in panic
She consoled her dear daughter, made her MATRONYMIC.
Sitting amidst the sands of THE RED DESERT, alone
AGATHON’s tears were drying, the Sun fiercely shone.
The Elysian tale led him to utmost EUDAIMONIA,
But the poet’s MISOLOGY cursed him to APORIA.
He didn’t own a pen to write the rest of anecdotes,
Thought to tell ‘The Tale of Titans’ in PALINODES.
Note: My version of APORIA, A Tale of Titans and is entwined with the below mentioned deities from Greek Mythology….
Rest of the story of this epyllion is woven by me and is yet to be completed. I will soon come up with the rest of the tale told by my protagonist, poet Agathon. Meanwhile, enjoy my favorite tracks from Sufjan’s APORIA album.
