‘The Ice Maiden‘ — the title of my poem is derived from a famous fairy tale, a short story written by ‘Hans Christian Anderson‘, the noted Danish author and playwright, which was published in 1863.
I am the ice on the frozen peaks,
I lack warmth, I lack life,
Yet look upright, I’m dignified,
I glow within, though chilled, rife.
My heart filled with Adam’s ale,
A treasure trove of ocean’s haze,
I freeze the moon with flurry puff,
I thieve the sun of a gauzy glaze.
What if I look flinty as you,
I have a flow instilled in me,
Just need a touch of little warmth,
My swirls ready to swamp the sea.
I flew with pernicious swift,
Then fostered life before I left,
I nurtured you then congealed,
My frigid charm now windswept.
O’ Savage rocks! Ain’t you brittle?
Dementor of mirth! Can you sip earth?
Neither am I scared of you,
Nor of you O’ lethal Death!
Adam’s ale* –Water (archaic)
The ice laden mountain peaks of the Himalays, challenge dark grey deathly rocks with grace and majesty, like a woman, who is though deprived of joy and gaiety, wants all the honour and dignity she deserves. The ice, which was water sometimes ago, still knows how to stay upright and glow with a translucent aura of pride.
