Ethnicity is deeply ingrained in my blood and I’m not ashamed of it. I’ve always been dressed into the best of ethnic traditional wear as it connects me to my roots. Being a girl, born and brought up in Bihar, the genesis of Maurya clan, and hailing from the city of Chanakya, Patna, it was quite easy for me to adapt clothing which were prevalent all over my surroundings.
I love traditional Indian wear that much, that I purposely avoided all other casual and formal western clothes. Reason being, the comfort, wearability and functionality of ethnic wear. When it comes to picking up my favorite attire, saree is indeed the one I love to be draped in…. almost always.
For me, my ethnicity is my pride. I wear India on my sleeves. Being a mother of 2 grown-up beautiful daughters, I wish to pass on my rich collection of exquisite sarees to them and to my generations to come. So, while ordering sarees from craftsvilla.com, the first and foremost thing which came to my mind was, choosing sarees that are classic yet contemporary, trendy yet timeless and stylish yet comfortable. That’s why i picked two sarees in Kota cotton, the famous Kota Doria sarees with intricately printed traditional motifs. Both of us, my daughter Maitreni and I tried the sarees with different accessories and other mix-n-matches to explore different looks and drapes.
Spun on the looms of master craftsmen of Rajasthan, Kota cotton sarees are crafted with optimum finesse to suit the sensibility of modern Indian woman. That’s the reason Maitreni loved draping both of them despite being habituated of modern clothes more. What I loved the most about them is the flowing fabric which has a subtle silk like sheen which is the forte of mercerised cotton. And the cherry on the cake? It’s the prints- paisley’s and florals. Colors are good amalgamation of subtle and vibrant hues which suit our complexion very well. It was an awesome feeling draping them. Indeed my favorite OOTD of TSS.
I proudly wear my country and my state on my sleeves, always clad in my desi clothes. I feel proud watching women from across the globe wearing traditional Indian outfits. It gives me a sense of belongingness towards the world when Indian ethnic becomes global.
