The summer is well and truly upon us, and you are focussed on wearing light cotton clothing in pastel shades so that your skin can breathe. But it is also IPL season, and you’ve got prime seat tickets to the best matches.
So what do you wear to an IPL match? You can’t wear flowy kurtas to a cricket match, whether you’re watching it in the stadium or a sports bar. Nor can you wear formal salwar kameez sets. The de facto clothing for cricket matches is jeans and tees, or if you want to make some concessions to the weather, shorts or skirts. Also, since it’s the IPL, you have to sport your team’s T-shirt. You might not go the whole hog and wear the entire team kit, but the T shirt with your favourite player’s name on it is a must.
When it comes to footwear to be paired with jeans, you must go casual with sports shoes, flip flops or heeled chappals. Boots and leather formal shoes often don’t pair well with jeans. Besides, the jeans themselves may not be fitted, but of the boyfriend or dad variety to keep you cool and comfortable for the duration of the match. If you don’t find your team tee online on shopping sites, you can wear a loose white cotton tee or a tank top, and wear your team’s colours on your face and arms.
Most often, though the IPL matches span a much shorter duration than 50-over matches, you will be on your feet for most of it. Every time your team scores a boundary or a ball is lobbed straight into the stumps, you’re going to stand up and cheer the loudest! You need footwear than can help your feet breathe and move about easily, without encumbering your style. And so, you can invest in either a comfortable pair of sneakers or sports shoes, like sneakers.
Flip flops are fine
Most people equate flip flops with collegian style, but nothing could be further than the truth. Simply anyone – man, woman, child – of any age can rock a pair of flip flops. The trick is to buy a pair of flip flops that have a thick, comfortable sole that offers adequate shock absorption, apart from arch and heel support.
Look for flip flops in faux leather, or with canvas straps, for a stylish finish. Flip flops go well with jeans, cargos, shorts and skirts, so it’s all a matter of picking the colour and material that you like. Online shopping sites have a variety of new colours in flip flops. You can find a pair that even matches your team colours!
Sneakers are best
Just like flip flops, sports shoes are recommended with jeans and tees. Sneakers find special favour with most cricket enthusiasts, particularly since so many new styles and colours are available. It is super cool to find a pair of sports shoes in your team’s colours, too! Leading online fashion sites have the season’s newest colours in sneakers, so get shopping right away.
Sneakers keep the feet protected from the elements, so you won’t find your feet getting tanned in the harsh sunlight or dusty when you step out for a walk. Sneakers with a slightly bendy sole are ideal for sporting matches – they offer adequate foot support without counter-resistance, while also providing shock absorbing action.
So if it’s an IPL match, you now know which two styles of footwear you need to rock!
