Dad’s lil’ girl forgot her smile and lost her eyes twinkle,
Her lustrous locks cloistered, her lucent visage wrinkled,
The hapless soul missed ever her knight-in-shining-armour,
Her melodies were lost amidst cacophony and clamour.
Her cursed castle was filled again with dry and tawdry hay.
Her tears began to drip daily, in the river of dismay,
Tip-tap-tip…those dewdrops played a subtle melodious tune,
Then she heard a draughty sound, though it was month of June.

…. stanzas from my Epyllion, “THE BLIND GIRL”, a short epic, a long poetic fairy tale, I’m yet to complete.
My heartfelt poetic fiction, portrays the agony of a princess who lost her vision and glory with her dad’s demise…
Today, June the 16th is Fathers’ day and I, too, am missing my “Knight-In-Shining-Armour”….
He instilled in me the love for all things beautiful….. Love for art, music, literature, words, nature…. practically everything alluring around and he was indeed the best of that beauteous lot…the most beautiful person inside out. A man of perfect order, mannerisms, class, sophistication, sobriety and moreover having an immaculate heart.
His ‘always-sparkling-white’ uniform, ‘never-seen-dull’ shoes, ‘always-well-kempt’ black advocates’ coat, crisp dhakai mulmul Kurtas, well-tailored suits and shirts were the reason I developed a good dress sense and learnt the basics of elegance and mannerism. All I wanted to be like him– sophisticated.
His tongue in cheek humour, soft voice, suave persona, great intellect and kind heart were the virtues which inspired many to be like him, though he never deliberately tried to teach us or preach us, rather showed us how a person can be effortlessly perfect, always.

Though I never believed in celebrating days, father’s Day has double the charm for two reasons. First, it associates me with the person I love the most. And second, it comes in June, the most ceremonial month for my family. June, in which my parents celebrated their anniversary and the birthdays of both their daughters.
Those were the times we were not even aware of celebrating relationships mere for a day. As, my father taught us to be humane and loving always, regardless of any particular day or celebration. He taught me life, without actually teaching in literal sense. He exuded goodness.
Happy Father’s Day to all the men out there. Do love your sons and daughters. Especially daughters, because she will breathe you till her last breath. It’s been 20 years since my father is gone, but he is alive with me.
I need no days and occasions to celebrate my father. He always beats in my rhythms, syncs in my symphonies and speaks in my poems. He never leaves but rests in my soul. As to me, the Sun never fades but endows the moon with his glimmer to enlighten us in his absence.
Happy Fathers’ Day Papa. ❤
