We were Montessori friends! From our broken milk teeth as toddlers to that first pimple in the teenage; from the first trophy in the spelling contest to that hiding of our report cards from parents for those falling grades, we shared all those priceless moments together. We shared all those moments together, sweet or sour, happiness or sorrow. Those were the moments stolen from my true and worth cherishing friendship with my childhood friend Priyanka. We hardly meet today being apart since years and staying miles away. But whenever we meet, those memorable moments come alive before us. We discuss that cheap yet lip-smacking chat from our school canteen and wonder how that taste is impossible to find even in 5-star hotels.
The journey of our friendship started when we were mere 3 and a half and got admitted in Montessori section. We were more foe than friends then. Most of the time we used to fight sitting besides on adjacent desks! But gradually, that bitter togetherness started flourishing into a sweet one. We shared our lunch boxes and our lives too. Priyanka liked my sandwiches while I loved her mom’s pickles. Having same interest in dance and music, we used to participate in all extra-curricular activities of school together, which strengthened our bond more. While I loved helping her with Maths sums, she always made me remember history lessons.
I still remember those days when both of us got excessively stressed out during our board exams. My mom was the only person with whom she shared all her traumas and agonies. Those were the real tough times of our friendship. I even started getting jealous why she is becoming so close to my mom. Sadly, she slipped into depression and couldn’t appear for her English and Hindi papers during 10th boards. Later, she appeared for compartmental exams. And my mom taught her during her preparations of English and Hindi papers and she got highest marks in both. But, we had to separate as we couldn’t remain together as Priyanka got admission in a different school. Our 12 year old friendship got shattered because of that sad incident.
After a year, she came to our house with her dad, hugged me and both of us cried a whole lot. My mom had secretly called her to mend that breakage. Those tears washed away all the malice, jealousy and differences between us. Our friendship is 22 years old now and we still share the same fun and frenzy together. Though, we have differences and clash of opinions sometimes, but still, we are friends forever.
