Bitter Memory with Brother
Down the memory lane, through a turnover from the pages of my childhood, I am reminded of a hilarious incident with a very cunning act of ours, when my brother and I were tiny-tots! 😀
Sweet Memory with Brother
Down the memory lane, I am reminded of the moment when my 8 yrs old kid brother was damn excited about the upcoming Raksha Bandhan. He was continuously telling me that he had a big surprise in store for me but never revealed what it was. Three months before hand, he had been so circumspect in collecting toffees which he used to receive from his classmates on their birthdays and preserved all of them in a wooden box. When a week was left for Raksha Bandhan, my brother took out all pennies from his lil piggy-bank, and brought a huge cardboard and all sorts of decorative items from the nearby store, made a beautiful Rakhi gift-box out of them and stored all the toffees in it !
And then the final day arrived, I performed all the rituals, tied the knot of unconditional love, faith and care on my bro’s wrist, eagerly waiting for his surprise. Now that it was his turn, looking at the sweet charming smile on his innocent face, I had already received my world behind that little grin! But to my utter surprise, he softly held my hand into his, and presented a beautifully & delicately carved gift-box into mine. I was overwhelmed by emotions and my hand could not stop but to unleash his exotic creation and I opened the box instantly. But Alas! Seeing red ants all over, the box just slipped off from my hands on the floor! Ohh Fishh! What next? A tear drop as precious as pearl gradually rolled down from his eye as his entire surprise was deliberately ruined by the cruel ants.
But that wasn’t enough, that he quickly wiped his tears, held the box firmly in his hands and told me to wait for 10 minutes. He came back in 5 minutes and I keenly took the box from him and guess what? I was totally mesmerized by what I saw inside it; a beautiful bouquet made out of the different flowers from our garden bound together by a silk thread & silver foil (things he had bought for gift-box decoration). The magical aroma of the fresh flowers was a boon in disguise to our innate accord & the maudlin bond that we shared.
Indeed, that was the most special gesture and the most precious gift, I have ever received that gladdened my heart and touched my soul from beneath. Even now, when I cherish those flower petals safely kept in my personal diary and the toffee wrappers in my gift-box, I am overwhelmed by Love, love & loads of Love . . . <3
And here’s our Rakhi celebration adding to the flavors of these bitter-sweet memories! ^_^
