Love is blind, so is mine, as, in spite of being a generous and kind-hearted person I often breathe with ruthlessness and apathy towards others when it comes to my kids.
“Kick him back… don’t let him return home sound on his feat, I’m telling you!” — I yelled.
Years back.. I was shrieking over my daughter as I was expecting my 5 years old to beat an innocent 3 years old boy. I very well knew that I was unethical and wrong, no matter how badly he hit my unimpeachable daughter. He was a little toddler after all, who looked no less than a demon to me that day. I was inconsiderately selfish because I was a mother. I still am, and know that parenthood makes people utterly mellow for themselves and callous for others. At times, we do things exactly opposite to what we believed in. Love is the prime reason behind many crimes in this society and is being excused for similar reasons. Those people often claim that they were parents turned paranoids who later became predators. Love is like that only— Blind!
So, the question arises here— should we cross the limits of plausibility and touch the chords of gratuitousness in the name of love? Am I allowed to snatch the happiness from every child’s face to add on to my child’s grin? Certainly not! Here quivers the very question when I saw Amazon Original, Breathe, an Original Series thriller aired by Amazon Prime since 26th Jan, 2018 with its 8 episodes webcasted till date. Being human is indeed my priority apart from being the best mom, which wasn’t seen in the character of ‘Danny Mascarenhas’, played my R. Madhavan in Amazon Original Series, “Breathe”. So, unlike him, I would rather stick to morality and won’t ever try to cross that hairline frontier between selfishness and brutality as a solicitous guardian.
Here’s what Breathe is all about!
Directed by Mayank Sharma, Breathe is an intrepid psychological thriller that predominantly revolves around two lead characters— Danny Mascarenhas (R. Madhavan) and Kabir Sawant (Amit Sadh). The plot fundamentally reflects the life of ordinary people dealing with extraordinary circumstances. Danny is a doting single parent to a six-year old boy Josh while Kabir Sawant is a relentless cop who’s struggling with his own complexities. Josh unfortunately suffers from a life-threatening pulmonary disease known as Cystic Fibrosis and is in a dire need of a lung transplant. Danny and his windowed mother Juliette wish nothing else than seeing Josh get better and living a normal life like other kids of his age. And now begins Danny’s soul-stirring journey from being a desperate parent to the point of extremity. Danny decides to take the traitorous path which may endow his son with a normal life but condemn him towards detrimental circumstances. Kabir Sawant is an ingenious but unconventional officer of the Mumbai crime branch upon whom life is taking a toll, both on personal as well as professional fronts. He catches hold of a whiff of something dubious and he puts together the pieces of seemingly unconnected deaths of organ donors. His ferocious instincts bring him to the conclusion resulting in an unlikely suspect— the affable Danny Mascarenhas (R. Madhavan). Thus, Breathe portrays Danny’s struggle in saving the life of his son while he tries to create his own fate in order to alter his son’s destiny.
TSS’s Verdict!
We, at The Style Symphony have watched all the 8 episodes of Breathe Amazon Prime Original and the ultra-gripping plot kept us on the edge of our seat throughout. We extend our sincere accolades to Amazon for going out-of-the-box by investing in Originals in India, else something like Breathe Amazon wouldn’t have happened to us. Indians are immensely talented but unfortunately we do not get the proper platform that could do ample justice to our efforts. Amazon has actually bestowed such people brimming with creativity with a golden chance to speak out their stories to the world and take entertainment to a whole new level in front of the Indian audiences. Gone are the days when families used to stick to their television screens for those lovey-dovey soaps and movies which had nil versatility. However, with the Original Series, Amazon has plunged into the Indian market with panache, endowing the audience with some soul-searching experiences.
The best aspect of Breathe is that the Original Series not only shows the struggle of an aching father (breathe madhavan) dealing with his son’s disease, but the story also comes with a universal message to learn from. This is why we would highly recommend our Symphonites to watch this original ,as it’s certainly worth your attention and something you’d have never seen before in India. Madhavan is superlative as Danny Mascarenhas and he is certainly the major reason you would be glued to the show like never before. He has broken all his past records creating another milestone in his acting career with such a natural portrayal of a fearsome as well as fearless father simultaneously. And Amit Sadh has showcased a whole new side of him playing the typical angry young man. Both the lead actors have delivered brilliant performances, and nevertheless the supporting cast is equally spellbinding. All their efforts have led to the creation of a masterpiece with organic setting, relatable characters and hard-hitting notes in each of the 8 episodes.
Breathe Amazon Prime Original series has been like a fresh lease of life from the conventional shows that the Indian audience has been habituated to watch. With a strong message at heart, Breathe Amazon leaves you with a simple but important lesson. What you do now will come back to you in the future in some or the other form. Karma is a bitch, and things are not likely to end well for the fickle-minded Mascarenhas. Will Danny’s dark truth be revealed in the next season? Will Kabir be able to stay motivated further? Who is going to be the next victim? Will Kabir be able to cease everything before anyone else gets hurt? Stay tuned with bated breath for another gripping season of Breathe.
