Be it an eminent ‘fashionista’ or someone working daily wages at a small grocery store, everyone has their own interpretation of fashion. Albeit the two common questions that frequent the minds of people who don’t know the culture of how fashion circuit works being ‘Whats all this façade about being fashionable?’ and the most prominent being ‘Who wears these over-the-top clothes that sometimes flaunt themselves along the ramp walks in these fashion shows?’
Well.. I got an opportunity to experience this first hand at the Lakme Fashion week for the spring summer 2017! A behind the scenes log of it is what I intend to share below…
So, in classily arranged tents we have the different Runways where these Fashion shows are happening one by one.. the easiest way to relate to it is like thinking of these Runways as theatre’s .. so the invitee’s or so to say the Guests who are there to support a particular designer for his/her collection, arrive at the particular timed schedule, attend the designer’s show, and vacate the runway for the next show to take place!!..
Every show as you know has a showstopper, generally a famous personality like a famous model or a Bollywood celebrity who is supposed to ‘stop’ the proceedings of the show by wearing the designers most priced creation of his/her collection and then calling in the designer to walk onto the ramp.
Now that being said I was there to cover the collection under the label ‘Galang Gabaan’ by fashion designer Lipsa Hembram with jewellery and accessories designs courtesy ‘Tripti’s exclusive’ by Nishtha goel.
The theme of the clothesline being ‘Simplicity’, I tried to capture of how the showstopper and Bollywood actress Ms. Adah Sharma associates Fashion with simplicity to which she replied “To not complicate fashion.. being simple and casual for the upcoming summers!..” the collection sported a majority of light colours which promted me to ask her for the one style tip that she had for the Summers ..” It should be easy breezy.. and as you saw a lot of light colours.. blended with a good fabric should do the trick!..”
She also stars in the soon releasing movie ‘Commando 2’ in which she sports a Hyderabadi accent which sounds very cute and for which I congratulated her to which she responded that “Yes..so cute is a first for me! And thanks for that.. but I have been getting a lot of positive response for the trailer as well as my accent in the movie.. doing action with Vidyut is the best learning curve that one can ask for!..”

While the proceedings of the show began, attendees with prominent faces from various literary fields started to arrive.
Bollywood’s ‘ROJA’ Madhoo Shah accompanied by Mr. Mushtaq Sheikh were the first ones to arrive.
Zaheer Khan and Ajit Agarkar accompanied Mrs. Anjali Sachin Tendulkar, while from the Bollywood brigade Shamita Shetty looked petite in a yellow skirt. Music director duo Salim Sulaiman walked in together and were spotted in a jolly mood socializing with the designers, while Aftab Shivdasani and Mr. Kabir Bedi flaunted their towering personalities for the shutter bugs..

Speaking about the accessories and the jewellery Ms. Nishtha Goel tried to give me a glimpse of what goes about behind the curtains to put up a great fashion show.. and trust me it’s a lot of hard work! “From the team at IMG to the team at Lakme, everyone is on their toe’s to give a perfect show for you all.. today as you can see the theme of the day is ‘Sustainable textile day’ so its all about handcrafts, textiles… so every fabric that you will see on the ramp is woven by hand which makes it necessary for me as an accessory designer to design the look which looks organic and comes about as effortlessly adding natural charm to the already wonderful clothes!..”

So the floor was cleared and show started, I got my seat and saw the complete proceedings, while I looked through the various designs I collated my thoughts as I was about to meet the Designers.
Here are a few glimpse’s from the show..

Post the show I made my way to the Showroom of the designer. So all the designer’s showcasing their collection on the ramp through one of their shows and the many other budding Fashion designers have a showroom allocated to them from where they can showcase their collection to the interested buyer.

So I made my way to the showroom to get some more insights about the fashion of the day! 🙂
The designing team very happily spoke with me post which I got talking with the designer for the show Lipsa Hembrum, “The collection themed ‘Simplify’ depicts of how we need to flaunt fashion as.. keeping it simple and in accordance to our comfort.. so the fabrics that we are using are a lot of Khadi’s and other organic hand crafted fabrics..” ..
“We are promoting the natural hand woven fabrics from Kotpad Orrisa.. so all the colours, dye’s ..fabrics are all natural.. its pure hand spurn cotton..”
On asking for her fashion tip for the summers she exclaimed “just decomplicate the style..choose the trends that suit you..and discard the one’s which don’t suit you.. be comfortable in your skin..”

While the fashion extravaganza went on and I captured some more inscoops interviewed some more prolific faces from the midst of the most happening Fashion and glamour event, it was an end to the day of Fashion & it now came down to the most basic ‘to-do’ which was posing against the LFW logo!
