The Sapphire Ring And The Blue Wings: A Spanish Folklore…
There was a girl, Mariposa
From a village of Spain,
She loved her alcoholic father
But, all love was in vain.
Toiling in wineries for work
and some wine for father,
She saved grapes and flowers
to gather wine in barter.
On a fine spring morning
When dragging her cart
Mari’ lost her way to home
From the wine-yard.
Her barrow’s wheels stuck
in a grassland’s mire
Sky-flakes fell in “bolts of blue”
Her cart set on fire.
She tried to subdue the fire
But there gushed west wind
Fire stoked the wine barrels
Blasted, all wine brimmed.
Stuck in mud, wine drenched
Mariposa was burning,
“Please save me O, Father”
‘Twas her sad yearning.
A flurry of her tears dripped
to her father’s face,
He, then visited to the mire
Mari had solace.
Seeing overflowing wine
Father went berserk,
He kept bottling lavish drink
Left his daughter stuck.
Mariposa was smouldered
in the hellfire of wine
She evoked Amphictyonis,
The goddess, divine!
The wine goddess wept tears
of gloom on Mari’s pyre,
Then she healed her wounds by
Rubbing her ring’s Sapphire!
Mari’s burnt carcass when
touched the deity’s ring,
It turned into a butterfly,
Grew blue, sapphire wings!
From that day to this day
Mari wears blue wings,
Every nightfall she visits
to my window and sings.

Epilogue: Sometime ago, I came across an Spanish folklore of Mariposa, a young maiden. She lived in a small village of Spain. Loitering in the winery every day for work, she would often find herself chasing butterflies in her free time. She believed that somewhere in the parallel world butterflies yielded magic and effected the lives of those inhabiting the planet.
Mariposa, hence went out on a pursuit of finding this magical realm of of butterflies. And on finding this enchanted land, she was delighted to be welcomed by the butterflies as if she was one of them. MARIPOSA, that’s what they named her.
Finding her abode, she disappeared from human history in the 19th century. Her disappearance began one of the best uncovered mysteries.
But, year 2020 marks her Renaissance, here on The Style Symphony by me, Sangeeta, a dreamer, an entrenched aficionado of blues and butterflies…..
….blue Butterflies…
PS: The picture I have shared here is of mine and is clicked by me. Both the blue beauties, the ‘Blue Butterfly‘ fridge magnet and my ‘Rhodium Sapphire Ring’ were my inspiration behind this tale of blues.
