स्याह …DARK…‘BLACK’… though it’s not a color, it amalgamates all the possible hues of a rainbow in it. I love black for its mysticism, enigma and elegance. Black is beautiful, indeed! So what if it’s not a color! It sashays with the cascading crowning glory of a lady’s locks and dwells in the deep doe-eyes of a damsel with its euphemism. Similarly, it sets off the glimmer of the twinkling stars and the bright moon and reveals in the mysterious beauty of the night-sky.
We often forget the prominent inklings of black in our religion and mythology while considering it inauspicious. It evokes the mystical side of Sufism and is predominant in Hinduism too. Black is ‘KRISHNA’ and ‘SHYAM’, so, for me, it’s the hue of love. It absorbs all the colors and their shades in it, yet stays unaffected and unchanged, like love, which remains in-situ of all the virtues as well as vices.
I love black, for it combines vivid shades of my persona, that is calm, classic, beautiful, sad and enigmatic. I’m celebrating my shades of dark with this Hindi Poem ‘रंग‘, as for me, it’s the celebration of love, romance, happiness and beauty, quite close to the concept of “Chhayawad” and “Shringar Rasa” in Hindi literature. Black fuses all the varied and vibrant hues of life in it, like ‘Shyam-varna’ (dark complexion) of Lord Krishna which infused Radha’s fair complexion in it. It’s the hue of the letters inscribed over paper, so illuminates knowledge. It infuses the ‘SAPTSWARA‘ (seven notes) of music which overpowers our mind and drenches our soul. To me, Black is the quintessence of love.
