In our previous blog post “A scar on face Vs. scar on soul” written by Maitreni, there started a discussion/debate about how scars are impactful on a person’s body, mind and soul and how they scar your physical and mental well-being. Today, through this post, I want to take the discussion on the next level, that’s through a mature insight (Of course, I’m mature in terms of age and experiences than most of our readers).
While I say scars are good, I’m reminded of a T.V. commercial of a detergent powder which says ‘Stains are good’ (Daag Achhe Hain). How come, here’s my point of view!
Scars, scars, scars!
Let them be, wherever they are…
As they are the symbols of your fighting spirit, your revival and restoration towards life! A scar symbolizes a healed wound and vanished pain. It persists longer (be it, on your skin or on your soul) to give you lessons and to remind you about your mistakes in life.
I remember, I had a severe arterial cut along with a nasal fracture about 6 years back. That day, I thought my life was finished and I had to live the rest of my life with an ugly face. Though that facial bruise healed in a couple of months, that scar still endures on my face (Though, it’s almost negligible today after 30 stitches; thanks to the skilled cosmetic surgeon!). That scar gives me alarming signals and sends alerts to my brain whenever I step into a wet washroom, just like that day.
I have never had a fall because of my careless steps after that day. Whenever I rest my reading glasses on that scar, it still pains and reminds me of my hasty steps towards life. So, as long as you consider those scars as the milestones to a new beginning and your chaperones for a better tomorrow, they are good.
At times, your facial scar is a result of rubbing your hurt skin too harsh or sometimes it occurs just by pricking a pimple. So, better those wounds should be left untouched! Similarly, the wounds and bruises etched on our hearts and souls shouldn’t be scratched, rubbed and aggravated every now and then. Leave them, let them be like they are and allow time to heal them. Then only, the scars left subsequently, could become negligible and unnoticeable.
Here, I say (sorry for being a bit patronizing and preaching towards youngsters), a scar happens as a result of either a careless fall, like of mine or an irrational fault, like scratching the wound, or an ignorant failure, like not paying attention towards your pains and bruises. And this applies to both, your physical as well as mental traumas.
In the equation of life, when we make mistakes, we have to bear pain and get those bruises. And scars are those remainders we are left with at the end. So, this equation is as simple as that;
Mistakes – Wounds + Pain = SCARS
(Did I say our mistakes are bigger than those wounds, pains and scars?)
Scars are good wherever they are, whether on your skin or on your soul. Aren’t they? So, leave those scars untouched, no matter where they are, allow them to fade with time and learn great lessons of life out of them, i.e. to
“Rise with Dignity, after each fall, fault and failure of Life.”

Totally agree with you, Ma’am. I really believe that we should not prick our wounds. Let it be. And scars reward us with wisdom, along with the pain. And every good thing comes with a price, after all.
A beautiful post 🙂
Well said Purba. Everyone experiences those wounds less or more, but the one who survives as the fittest of them all wins the struggle for one’s existence.
Thank you so much for appreciating. 🙂
Awesome perspective…. the scar o my right leg thanks to an accident is part of me now and means a lot too… funny na?
Haha.. indeed funny Archana. Well, it depends upon you how you want to contemplate that scar. As a boon or as a bane? Thanks. 🙂
If scars weren’t there, who would be caring fairness then?
fair life is felt as blessed one only because of scars. 🙂
Glad to read the complete view! Thank You!
Scars V/S Fairness… Well, nice comparison. It’s my pleasure that you like my perspective as well as the post. You are most welcome Mr. Parashar. 🙂

Nice post. I too have a huge scar , almost 8” due to my cardiac surgery . I actually learned to feel scar as a part of me . I love it , i feel it makes me special and different from others . It reminds me in every difficult time that i have faced worse.
Well said Sadhvi. All of us face the similar situations less or more. Those scars impact us the same way be whether be on body, mind & soul. But survivors are those who come out as winners out of those adverse situations.
You are the real survivor, the fittest among the rest to visualize your flaws as your achievements. Kudos to your spirits for being such an inspiration and thanks a lot for the appreciation.:)
Deeply admire your perspective and it is sinking in gradually yet firmly 🙂
Thank you so much Roma. It’s really overwhelming that you find the post such intriguing. 🙂
Very nice post mam.. I remember when I was 14 yr old, a boy hit a stone on my forehead.. Everyday I used to look at my that scar & used to think why me.. But after so many years I rarely pay attention towards me..
Well said Anjali. Time is the best healer, and what remains at the end, are the reminders to show us right path. Thank you so much giving it a read. God bless. 🙂
Bruises and scars are a sign of healed wound. Couldn’t agree more on this. A well thought out post Sangeeta.
Thank you so much Somali. Your appreciation means a lot. 🙂
A very introspective post. Scars are not only remainders but also reminders to keep us on the right path.
That’s so true Mr. Pasha. Scars are remainder as well as reminder for us to judge and foresee the right path. Thank you so much for giving a new meaning to my post yet again. 🙂
