Yet again, I received a beautiful poetry collection, ‘SONG OF PEBBLES‘ by noted poet Asoke Kumar Mitra, exactly a year after reading his book ‘SAVAGE WIND‘. Possessing such aesthetically done and soulfully written collection of poems in itself is quite gladdening. While reading it, is all the more blissful. So, when I thought of writing a review, verses spurt, naturally. What would you expect from a dreamer when she has to review a book of poetry? As usual my words delved into Nature’s abundance coming straight away from the faraway pastures of East where the poet resides. The land of art, poetry and beauty, Kolkata. So, I would love to add my touch of rhyme and rhythm to Poet Mitra’s marvels….
When Notus whiffs of sandal woods,
Little sparrows chirp in happy moods.
Zephyrus whistles around barren trees,
Full moon quibbles on midnight’s freeze.
Autumn’s hues are spilled on maple,
Ah! ‘Savage Wind’ sings ‘Song of Pebbles‘!
PS: According to Greek mythology , Notus and Zephyrus were Titan gods of winds, of southern and western winds respectively!
Vous âme paresseuse…
That’s what I am if addressed in French…. A Lazy Soul…!
Lazy, but not a loser if I may say! How could I miss writing about what I enjoyed reading the most? Though I took long, this review isn’t loitered unnecessarily. Still…. I had more time reading this beautiful poetry collection, ‘Song of Pebbles’.
The first feeling after holding the book in my hands was indeed its aesthetics. Which added to its soul, the blissful words told with myriads of emotions. The way the poet emotes can’t be summed up in a nutshell. I always need a longer canvas to paint my views over it, resulting in longer posts.
I’m falling short of words to describe the tastefully done interiors of the book. Poet’s photography skills takes the lead here. The cover design, breathtaking painting by Svetlana Maksimtsuk adds to the charm. And not to mention, poetry comes straight from the heart. The fluidity of verses, profundity of emotions, spurt like a reckless stream which refuses to a standstill. We are bound to flow with the stream… persuasively…until the book comes to an end.
Out of 42 verses from the collection, my favorites are ‘Someday’, ‘Come Close’, ‘Between Us’ and ‘Sometimes’.
Between us….
“Our way to an unknown island
A mystery tale
Hidden behind a waterfall
This midnight hour
Under the shadow of the quite moon”
And, Sometimes…
Walking around
An empty soul weeps alone
You left like wind
Not really to back again….
Someday….
Someday we will go
On a trip across the night
Where white lily blooms
Will sing a song of the cyclone
Two impatient hearts
Two vagabond heads
Folded in our pockets
And the sound of our own voices
Come Close….
It rains now
The rebel wind and thunder
The lonesome whistle of the train
In the spring’s mist
Under the cloudy sky
Come close
Goodbye without shedding tears
We know all the answers
Come close
Let us watch the rain….
The Songs of Pebbles has given me a huge sentence, which I’m still not done writing….
